CLO 3D
Lecturer: Dr. Alshaimaa Alanadoly
During the first few weeks of the semester, we were introduced to the CLO3D program. Ms. Shaimaa gave us an introduction to this software and explained the basic tools we needed to know. I learned how to arrange basic pattern blocks, edit patterns, practice simulations, and sew the patterns together. Ms. Shaimaa provided us with class exercises to practice these basic tools, and assigned us a project to create three basic complete outfits/looks using basic materials, maps, and fabric variations. Initially, it took me some time to understand all the tools, but with Ms. Shaimaa's help, I was able to complete Assignment 1.
Assignment Brief:
Task 1: Preparation of basic 2D patterns (tops and bottoms) and simulation to 3D.
Draw basic design as a 2D pattern, simulate it to 3D, and making sure it fits nicely with the avatar size chosen.
Task 2; Variations of basic design.
Follow the basic design and apply different variations to add richness and details to our garment. Total of 2 variations has to be designed.
Task 3; Fabrications.
Follow the previously designed garments and add fabrics and textures. A basic understanding of texture creations needs to be applied.

First Look: Basic Outfit For the first look, we were required to create a basic outfit. I designed a basic tank top and basic pants, incorporating darts into both pieces. This helped me understand the fundamentals of pattern drafting in CLO3D.
Create Basic Pattern
Add Darts on Bodice Pattern
Second Look: Modified Tank Top and Circle Skirt for the second look, I modified the basic tank top into a babydoll top. I created a rectangular shape and stitched it below the tank top. I also designed a circle skirt by adding a circular shape and a waistband. For this look, I applied a wool fabric from CLO3D and adjusted the intensity and texture in the property editor.
Third Look: One-Sleeve Top and Straight Cut Pants For the lastlook, I designed a one-sleeve top. I started by adjusting the basic top pattern to include only one sleeve, then created the sleeve and cuff. I sewed them together and simulated the pattern. Next, I modified the basic pants into straight-cut pants with darts and sewed the front and back patterns together. Finally, I added silk duchess satin fabric to the outfit, adjusting the map and reflection intensity.

Property Editor - Reflection
Final Look - Variation 2

This assignment significantly improved my skills in digital pattern drafting. Through this project, I got to practice and explore the important tools in CLO3D. I really enjoyed working on this assignment, as it allowed me to see the 3D avatar wearing the outfits created from my 2D patterns. With guidance from Ms. Shaimaa and support from my friends, I successfully completed this first assignment. This experience has been valuable in enhancing my understanding and skills in digital fashion design.
