Task 02 : Fabric Manipulation & Samplings
Week 02 - Week 05
I chose pull tabs and paperclips for the unconventional material. Pull tabs are usually unuseful and thrown away, so I gathered lots of pull tabs from the recycled centre and washed them before i use it. While paperclips are easy to find. I use paperclips to add more variation to the texture.
For the base, I decided to use normal big net and mesh fabric.
1st Sample
For the first sample, I seperated the pull tabs with good condition and took off all the sharp parts. I hand sewed each of the pull tabs into the net and make it piled up, all way down, and do it repeatedly. I made the pull tabs dispersed at the bottom and create a pattern. Below are some photos that i took while doing the first sample.
First sample drape on dummy
Using the same material, I hand sewed the pull tabs diagonally and hung some paperclips to fill in empty spaces. Below are some photos that i took while doing the second sample.
3rd Sample
Second sample drape on dummy
Using the same technique, I also hand sewed each of the pull tabs diagonally for this last sample. However, I didn’t add the paperclips, so I sewed the pull tabs closely and make sure there’s no big empty spaces.
